Many people think of exercise and brushing their teeth as essential daily health habits, but what do you actually do to take care of your eyes? Here are our best tips for keeping your eyes healthy, sharp and comfortable for longer.
1. Have regular eye examinations
Speak to your optician about how often you should have your eyes checked. Factors such as family history, medical conditions, vision problems and age all influence how often this is needed.
2. Protect your eyes from UV light
Just as you protect your skin with sunscreen, you should protect your eyes with high-quality sunglasses. Choose lenses with 100% UV protection and ideally additional blue light filtering.
3. Eat well for your vision
Kale, spinach, broccoli and berries such as blueberries contain antioxidants that help protect the retina.

4. Avoid dry, irritated eyes
Use eye drops without harsh preservatives. Feel free to ask us which option suits you best.
5. Stop smoking
Smoking is a major risk factor for both cataract and age-related macular degeneration.
6. Take breaks from screens
Follow the 20–20–20 rule: every 20 minutes, look 20 feet away for 20 seconds.
7. Try simple focus exercises
Look at your hand close to your face, then shift your focus to the horizon. Repeat several times. This helps train the eye’s ability to focus and can reduce fatigue.
