Common vision problems and how we help you see better
These are some of the most common reasons why vision changes. We explain what they mean and how we at Optikhuset Stockholm can help you find the right solution.
What is myopia (short-sightedness)?
You can see clearly at close distances but struggle to see objects far away. This happens because the eye is too long, causing images to focus in front of the retina. Myopia is particularly common in children and young adults and often progresses during growth.
How we manage myopia at Optikhuset:
- We correct vision with single-vision glasses tailored to your prescription
- We offer contact lenses for both everyday use and sport
- We provide myopia control lenses that can help slow progression in children
- We monitor eye growth using Myah
This is especially important for children, the earlier we detect increasing myopia, the better the outcome
What is hyperopia (long-sightedness)?
You tend to see better at a distance than up close. This is because the image is focused behind the retina. Hyperopia can lead to headaches, eye strain and difficulty with reading, especially after a long day.
How we manage hyperopia at Optikhuset:
- We help you find the right prescription for comfortable vision at both near and far distances
- We tailor your glasses with precise centration and appropriate lens coatings
- We offer contact lenses that provide both comfort and accurate correction
What is astigmatism?
The cornea has an uneven shape, similar to a rugby ball. This causes light to focus differently in different directions. Astigmatism often occurs alongside myopia or hyperopia and can lead to blurred vision, eye strain and headaches.
How we manage astigmatism at Optikhuset:
- We fit glasses with cylindrical lenses to correct the astigmatism
- We offer toric contact lenses if you prefer lenses
- For conditions such as keratoconus, we provide stable rigid lenses fitted using corneal topography
What is presbyopia (age-related long-sightedness)?
You find it harder to see clearly at close distances, typically from around the age of 40. The natural lens in the eye becomes less flexible and loses its ability to focus at different distances. This can make reading, using your phone or working at a computer more difficult without straining your eyes.
How we manage presbyopia at Optikhuset:
- We fit progressive lenses that work for reading, screen use and distance vision
- We offer occupational or indoor progressive lenses designed for work environments
- We provide multifocal contact lenses if you prefer lenses over glasses
What is binocular vision dysfunction?
Your eyes do not work together optimally. This can lead to double vision, difficulty reading, problems with depth perception or reduced vision in low light. Common causes include latent strabismus, convergence insufficiency or differences in refractive power between the eyes.
How we manage binocular vision dysfunction at Optikhuset:
- We carry out specialised tests to detect latent misalignment and visual imbalance
- We prescribe prism lenses to reduce strain
- We recommend vision therapy when appropriate
- We offer tinted filters to make reading more comfortable and clearer
Would you like to understand your vision better?
Book an eye examination at Optikhuset Stockholm. We take the time to find the right solution for you. We use instruments such as Myah to monitor eye growth and OCT to view the retina in cross-section. This allows for more reliable assessments and more confident decisions about your vision.
