Masunaga Eyewear at Optikhuset Stockholm

Masunaga stands for Japanese precision in its purest form. As many as 200 manual steps go into finishing a single frame. Masunaga handles the entire process itself, from raw materials and its own moulds to the final finish. The result is light, precise eyewear in metal and acetate, with a quiet elegance that does not follow the seasons.

The story began in 1905, when Gozaemon Masunaga brought craftsmen from Osaka to snowy Fukui to give the region a new livelihood. Masunaga became Fukui’s first eyewear maker, and today almost all Japanese frames are made in the region. In 1970, Masunaga frames were chosen for the time capsule at the World Expo in Osaka.
